Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage pertains to the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body to alleviate pain and muscle spasms, ultimately promoting health and wellness. The American Massage Therapy Association defines Massage as "a manual soft tissue manipulation that includes holding, causing movement, and/or applying pressure to the body. Massage therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client."

Massage therapy helps improve the functions of the circulatory, muscular, and skeletal systems of the body. In addition, it ameliorates the process in which the body recovers from injury.

Massage therapy helps with a variety of injuries, including dizziness and vertigo, migraines, low back pain and stiffness, neck pain, sciatica, bulging discs, herniated discs and spinal stenosis.

Massage comes in many forms:

  • Swedish: a gentle and relaxing massage
  • Trigger Point: for certain injuries
  • Sports Massage: focuses on the muscle groups particular to the sport
